Israel walked right up to the border of a land filled with Giants; giants occupying a land they were to possess in promise.
Promises from the generations,
Occupied by Giants.
Sound familiar?
Then I said to you,
“Do not be terrified;
do not be afraid of them.
30The Lord your God,
who is going before you,
will fight for you,
as he did for you in Egypt,
before your very eyes,
31and in the wilderness.
There you saw
how the Lord your God carried you,
as a father carries his son,
all the way you went
until you reached this place.”
Deut 1:29
Moses to Israel
The Father carried them right up to this border. Right up to the land of Giants.
Seems like a "way of the Lord". Matthew 4
The only way Heaven gets into us, according to C.S. Lewis, is a GREAT DIVORCE from HELL."
Heaven replaces hell - in us.
Death is overcome with resurrection life.
Hopelessness with HOPE and LOVE.
Lies with TRUTH.
But all along the way there are GIANTS. Impossibilities.
We walk by faith not by sight.
Yea. Uncomfortable for our flesh. This is the never changing reality of discipleship and following Jesus - He is always in front and always ahead of us in every way.
Yet our spirit thrives in the ways of heaven.
We need to see, hear and know.
Settle in.
Rest in the Lord.
Settle in.
Rest in the Lord.
Scripture says,
We go from faith to faith and glory to glory.
For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed--a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith." Romans 1:17
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18
Yet, I find my flesh wanting to go from routine to routine and
comfort to comfort.
Keeping the supernatural sight alive and well, is definitely a way of the WAY that must be learned.
There are a remarkable number of NUMBING temptations, distractions, desires and responsibilities in our lives each yelling for the center place, the sight, the vision of what we do day to day.
Israel was called to move in the promise of God against GIANTS.
The Father led them to that border, that location in their journey.
"as a father carries his son,
all the way you went
until you reached this place"
Deut 1:29
I don't know about you but I have dauntlessly sought to "undue" such scenarios and simply return to comfort and simple non-spiritual life on many occasions. Kicking against the goad as it were to get out of the moment. Israel did as well.
They saw all the remarkable miracles and yet found it hard to walk in the promise of taking the land. So did the disciples of Jesus. Peter is the classic example. He was with Jesus in amazing revelation on the Mount of Transfiguration. He saw Jesus in glory and heard God in the natural. And he denied Jesus and walked away. He went fishing after failing during the Passion of the LORD.
There seems to be two sides to this story and outcome.
1. God knows our weaknesses and never puts us beyond them. We are promised we can always make a good choice in faith and glory (1 Corinthians 10:13). Suffering and pain may be part of the choice, but the faith choice is always the path for the outcome of glory (2 Timothy 1:9-13). He promises to fill our weakness with perfected strength (I Corinthians 12:9). Grace through faith saves us (Ephesians 2:8). And it continues to save us as we continue in faith. There are rich paths of closeness to Jesus and understanding in joining him in his sufferings (2 Timothy 2:3). Jesus said, "Everyone will be salted with fire." (Mark 9:49). Salt stays the same through fire. Eternal things endure forever. Eternal life gets imparted into us, our character, our very being, through making choices for Grace by faith in the face of everything life throws at us.
"No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." I Cor 10:13
2. God's mercy and forgiveness are amazing in Jesus. Our failures and shortcomings can be overcome in the Gospel. The Blood of Christ washes all confessed sin. (I John 1:9; 2:1) The restoration of Christ is beyond our falling short and stumbling (John 21). Jesus is the Savior (I Timothy 2:3). We need to let him continue to save us. So we can chose the faith filled road (Hebrews 11:6). Stepping out into nothing and believing him for it; on the way to becoming something in promise and revelation (Ephesians 3:14-21). We are invited to trust based on the character of Jesus, the Father and the Spirit (Psalms 37). Total love and reliability offers us life, hope and love.
Scary at times? YEA. There's Giants in view.
The Father is not scary. Not at all.
In Christ he has poured out the most abundant loving kindness we can know.
Going with Him into the way of promise is the greatest invitation in life.
Seems he likes to lead us right into overcoming with him.
I John 5:1-5
Taking the land requires action in the promise not just "waiting for God to give it to us."
Take a key and unlock the door!
Outpouring and promise walking.
Take a key and unlock the door!
Outpouring and promise walking.
I've discovered there are seasons where the Father simply gives it. It falls, it out-pours, it rains the most abundant grace, love and power in the Spirit and it is wonderful. And there are season of intense labor in the promise. Every step mixed with faith; like we are stepping out into air. Both are guided by faith in motion; glory being the atmosphere and the result of our faith walk.
Oh yea, just receiving it or it exploding into our lives with Holy Spirit wonder and power, of course, I like that as well. I've walked with Jesus long enough to go through both experiences. Outpouring and promise walking. Some call that manifest presence and the desert.
The problems emerge when we turn one or the other into law.
When we only view the work of the Trinity through one lens.
Meaning "God just does it." That's how he works. All the time. Forever. He just makes the way for me and then I go into it. My high school son would love that to be how he attains his first job and all jobs thereafter. God just plants it right in his lap. But alas, typically he has to go after it sometimes.
Like the most recently. He was told he was not hired to a company he really wanted to work for, one that fit his plans for a few years. He went into the company after being denied, waiting days and days, calling and calling. After getting the "NO" he still went in and asked for the job.
HE GOT IT!
Persistence pays off. Endurance is valuable. Believing promises makes for action. Its not passive. Yea, I love the heavens falling on everything I do as well. Just doesn't go that way all the time. So.......do nothing?

Israel had that attitude toward the promised land.
That whole generation died in the desert.
Obeying God was just to scary.
They had to fight GIANTS.
Advance into them and sling a sword at them!
Huh. Sound familiar?
What if they failed?
You will if you never step out in faith.
And what is a little failure over the huge success of seeing God fulfill his promises and do miracles?

They did not enter the promised land.
They definitely missed the great miracle of the Father's care and love leading them in promise.
OR
"I walk in promise. Its up to me and my efforts."
Well what about John 15:5. Nothing can be done without Jesus.
This is a riddle.
You can do all kinds of things in life. But only with Jesus can you build his Kingdom, make a way in faith and walk in the Spirit. He is the director, the one giving out the grace assignments, the gifts. We follow his lead, literally.
He is not going to reward us for doing wondrous things we think up. Rather, for serving in the things he thinks up. Start there and you will be required to exercise faith. There will be no forward motion without it. You will find yourself empty without his power, weak without his strength. His ways guide us into becoming like him. Simple insight. This Massively changes of how you and I go forward.

The simplicity of the gospel is to LET HEAVEN flow out of YOU.
He is in you.
Christ in you the hope of glory. Col 1:27
Streams of living water are in you.....unless you stop em up.
The simple way is to FREELY GIVE AS YOU HAVE BEEN FREELY GIVEN
Want more HOPE. SOW IT.
Want more LOVE. GIVE IT.
Want more GRACE. Stoke it up with faith and start moving in what you already have.
Move with Christ.
Most likely you will encounter some GIANTS.
Be advised. They are all being put under the feet of Christ.
Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. 25For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27
For he “has put everything under his feet.”c
