Unlocking the Mystery of Abiding in Christ - Abiding is 3D

Transfiguration Abiding is pretty wild!

Abiding is 3D. 


It's more than posturing and finding a prayer time.
It is purchased in Christ and empowered by love.
It is relationship in three dimensions.
 

Rooted and Established

Abiding is rooted and established in the love of Jesus. 
Ephesians 3:14-21

For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family[a] in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Rooting goes on and on in our lives as we walk in the Spirit and abide in Jesus.  The rooting that is most important is rooting in love.  The love of Jesus, experienced and known, is the sticky honey that keeps our heart, mind, soul and spirit focused and expanding. 
Our roots grow up and fill up to the capacity of the love we know in Jesus Christ.  Real experienced and known love,  that is what abiding in Jesus is about. 

If we can grasp it, we are completely enveloped in the love of God as we move in his will.  Totally and literally surrounded in the effective love of God.  Somehow as we move in the Father's will abiding becomes our habitat. 

Resting in His Rest

Abiding is learning to rest in the reality of salvation and his peace.

There is a resting place in Christ that soothes the soul, pour fresh rivers on the spirit and calls out the deepest desires of our lives in Jesus.  It is found in faith and trust.  It is a rest for the soul that is always available to us in all circumstances.  That rest is established in love and cannot be broken by anything in creation.  Jesus is jealous for us and our affections.  He deserves them all in their highest forms. 

Jesus said, "It is finished" and with that he set down forever a new and living way.  A way that leads to the Father and his awesome blessings.  Those blessings are set as inheritance for the Saints and provide for us an abide in rest that cannot be shaken once experienced.  To learn to rest is to learn to trust.  To abide in the resting place with the Father is to place all cares, hopes and our very future in his hands and will.  It is in loosing our lives that we find them in the Father.


Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. a]
Hebrews 4:1


Activating Obeying faith

Abiding is activated by obeying His voice and touching the world.

If you love me.....Obey my commands.


 For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed.
Hebrews 4:2

Many believers know how to position themselves in a posture of abiding.
Waiting on the Lord, praying and seeking the Lord's face regularly.
They perfect an individual experience of abiding but in itself this is not abiding.

If you love me you will keep my commands. 
My command is this, that you love one another as I have loved you.  

Abiding empowers the action of love through Jesus in the world. 
No action. No love. 
No love.  No abiding.


Abiding is 3D. 


It's not just learning to wait for the Lord.
It is waiting for the Lord in action.

It's not just learning to rest in God, wait for his blessings and rejoice in the intimacy we experience knowing him and seeking his face.
It's a full circle journey.
Abiding is from the secret place to the House tops to the world in love.  

What is heard in secret proclaim from the roof tops


When abiding is 3D.....
It brings the power of intimacy into the open.
It refreshes those around us with the fragrance of his presence.
The Kingdom finds expression in the world we live in through remarkable simplicity.


When abiding is 2D....
Believers rejoice that God loves them and in the experience of his presence, but the world or the Saints do not "hear the word" or experience the testimony.
We find assurance for our way and rest for our souls, but we hold back the explosive quality of love, intimacy and knowing God where we live everyday.
This is not a 3D abiding.
It is only part of the whole picture of the Love of God.


 "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters."
I John 3:16 

Jesus' love of the Father was not 2D.   
Not 1D.  

Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority.
John 14:8-10


Abiding in Jesus means being 3D .  Real demonstration of a real love.  
We are like our Master.
We carry his voice and spirit everywhere around the world.
God loves making his love tangible and real. 
He is supernaturally natural at it. 
His presence is with us everywhere we go.

Defy Gravity III - Fear of the Holy Spirit? Is that Fear of Jesus?

Of all the fears one can have, 
the fear of the Holy Spirit are possibly the most devastating.   



I've seen people so uncomfortable with the moving and atmosphere of the Spirit that they literally want to run.  

I get it.  
The Spirit does things that cause the natural mind to wonder and be unnerved.   The offense of the natural mind at the things of God is real.  Yet, the Holy Spirit is such a kind and loving person.  Welcoming and open, warm and loving, he creates opportunity for us to surrender and give our lives to him at real points of pain, brokenness and need for forgiveness.   

That is probably the scary point.  We understand that we are known as we really are.    
We spend so much time and energy covering up who we really are to be accepted, loved, encouraged.  We sell our souls out to find some peace in this world that steals, kills and destroys Possibly we build a pseudo person that the Holy Spirit won't let us keep?

I've seen it so many times. Delusion.  People come to the boarders of a boarder-less country; a life in Christ, a life of truth and spirit, and they turn away.  There are too many unknowns staring them in the face and they don't see Jesus clearly enough to overcome the noise.  There are a 1000 reasons.  


The bottom line: We defy the gravity of the world order, the system designed to hold us away from God, surrendered to the flesh and submitted to the enemies dominion, when we surrender to Jesus.  



There are a few times I have experienced a sense of a boarder in Holy Spirit moves.
1. The unexplained power and workings of the Spirit in revival meetings.  When people are falling down, the Spirit is moving in a large room, people are crying, laughing, shrieking and lying on the floor immovable under the weight of glory.  It can be a bit unnerving to those who have no idea what is going on.  When different healings are occurring and demons are manifesting,  it gets even more interesting.  Definitely the flesh is not comfortable in such Spirit empowered environments.   So we may sense fear.  Or at least a sense of our boarders, of being uncomfortable. 


2.  The demonstration of power over demons.  
In Uganda during crusade we encountered possessed individuals who were completely under the control of demonic forces.  They could not control their bodies, voice, anything. I have cast out demons in America on many occasions and a few with this level of possession.  It's all over the New Testament and the ministry of Jesus, demons are real.  Jesus came to destroy such dominion and chains in peoples lives.  The average believer is totally unfamiliar and has never seen anything like an exorcism.  In this case ignorance is not bliss.  It leaves people enslaved to the captivity and dominion of darkness.  Every believer is empowered by Jesus to cast out demons.  It is a core sign of the presence of his rule and reign.  And it can be a wild and eye opening experience.   For the most part TV has set the pace and given us a grid for the demonic.  It is completely wrong and glorifies the enemy.  A whole different reality is present in us and through Jesus in confronting demonic forces.  

 
3. The supernatural experiences and encounters that shake our world.  
Dreams that lead to all kinds of breakthrough and action in the Kingdom are common today.  Prophetic direction and insight is a powerful blessing to those walking in the Spirit.  Basically, the experiences of those we read about in the Scripture are the common experiences of those who pursue the Lord Jesus in the Kingdom life.  We are supernatural people in a natural world.  We carry the Kingdom Jesus preached and demonstrated.  I have many testimonies at my web site www.jeffreynoldsministries.com  and in blogs of supernatural healing and wonders experienced in the Lord's Spirit.  Stories and testimonies pages.

Peter experienced this on the boat after the big catch.  
"Go away from me Lord, I am a sinful man".  Luke 5:8 
Overwhelming revelation of who Jesus was and what he looked like in comparison, he saw into the eternal.  Sinful. Not measuring up.  Yet Jesus invited him into a new life at that point.  Beautiful.  He surrendered and fell into Christ Jesus.
The world seeks to destroy us at moments like these; 
sowing into us condemnation and shame.  

Jesus set us free at moments like this.  

Free into eternal life and the hope of eternal freedom, 
we see it and he blesses us with the faith and grace to go forward.   

To defy the gravity of a world caught in the dominion of Satan, we need a power much greater.  We have such power in Christ through the Holy Spirit. We experience this when we find ourselves in environments charged with faith and the power of the Holy Spirit. 

It is a true heart breaker to see the Spirit open up peoples hearts, meet them in deep places of love and freedom and then for them to run away in fear.   

Deserves NO Place in our hearts
Fear closes off the move of God in us and our spiritual families.   
The demoniac is radically set free and (Mark 5:1-20) a whole town says "go away" to Jesus.  And he does.   
The visitations of God are conditional.  We receive him and the Kingdom and those he sends.  He is a King not a collaborator.  He is orchestrating plans in freedom and power all over the globe right now.   Who is welcoming his might and truth to set captives free and bind up the broken heart? (Isaiah 61)

Jesus lets us run.   In his wisdom he sees much farther than our limited scope.   The Father knows the plans he has for us. (Jeremiah 29:11-13)  


We can walk in promise into any situation and be at rest and peace through the Holy Spirit.  


  “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you."  John 16:12-14


The key is to never give way to fear.  Don't let the gravity of the world, FEAR, guide you in any way when it comes to the workings of the Holy Spirit and his power. 

PROMISE mixed with faith connects us to the Father's deepest plans and power.  
In Christ, if we hold on, we overcome just like him.  
He is in us.  
Stay in the game.  
Be bold and courageous. 
Don't shrink in fear from anything. 
Let the peace of Christ richly dwell in you. 
Go back to the word for understanding. 
And "having done all, TO STAND" (Eph 6:10f)

Abiding in LOVE is more about trust.

Do we will Ourselves to Abide in Jesus?

Paul trusted Jesus way beyond his own abilities.  II Timothy 1:12

"That is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him[a] until the day of his return."

Abiding in Jesus is the same.  Trust and rest in Jesus' ability.  

We are called to trust his ability to keep us. 


"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let 
yourselves be burdened again by a 
yoke of slavery."  Gal 5:1



Abiding in Jesus is the most freeing and elevating relationship available to us in our life journey. 
Abiding in Jesus is a full circle of fullness. 
"And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.  Ephesians 1:22

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." Matt 28:18


Abiding is not simply being in prayer, reading the word or having a quiet time.  
This is the best place to start learning to abide.  But it is not the fullness.  
The fullness of abiding in Jesus is a full circle. 

 Enter in....  his presence is an open door invitation to the depths of love.
Abide in him....remain in his love all day walking in the Spirit
Obey his voice....the full circle of abiding is to join Jesus in doing the will of the Father, loving the world, going with the gospel and carrying his Kingdom everywhere we go!



Many focus their "abiding" on times set aside with God.  Then when they exit that time they have no real sense of his abiding presence.  
Jesus said, "And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age."  Matthew 28:20
The reality of God's presence is without boarders of time....
Without boarders of feeling....
Without boarders of location....
The reality is the presence of the Lord Jesus is all the time presence, in all places, through all circumstances.  
He is present in the world everywhere.  
Disciples learn to walk in the Spirit and know this presence in everything. 
Oh What JOY!  


We enter into grace and love and his presence through and in the power of his blood and the redemptive grace.  We walk in by faith.  We abide in faith.  Trust and the power of grace through faith fill us with the knowledge of his love and grace empowers our way.  



Oh What JOY!

Abiding that sticks in his presence all day long is rooted in love and obedience. 

The full circle of abiding is not simply waiting on God and being in his presence. 
It includes the way of obedience and walking by faith in the Spirit.
The fullness of abiding is found in walking in his presence all day, everywhere, in all things.  
This is how we pray without ceasing.  
This is how we abide in an unbroken presence of the Lord Jesus. 
We walk in the Spirit through the day. 
We live and breath and move as a living sacrifice. 
We obey his voice, commands and serve the Lord in the world. 
We love like him. 
We abide in his love for the world and lay down our lives like he did.  I John 3:16
Oh What JOY!  
His habitations are a cool breezy beach!
Abide full circle in the fullness of his presence and love today! 
It is our inheritance in the Victorious Lord Jesus.  








DON'T LIMIT GOD'S PRESENCE at ALL.  
HE never leaves us or forsakes us.  

 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?

8If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

9If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,

10even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

11If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”

12even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
Psalms 139:7-12



Learn to see him all day.  Learn to see him in everything.  


Unless you become as little children
You will not see the Kingdom of Heaven.

What is Happening When God Feelings Go Away?

It happens to everyone. 

The smallest details are under his care
The God feelings go away.  
Granted, only for a season.  But clearly long enough to get us worried. 
As a new believer I remember wondering what happened. 

Questions flooded my mind. 
Did I do something wrong and God took off?
Did I dream this whole thing up?  
Is God mad at me? 
Where did He go?  Did he go somewhere? 


Feeling God, while amazing and deeply moving, is not the pinnacle of knowing him. 


Remarkable things start happening when we shift from knowing we are in the presence by how we feel to knowing we are in the presence by faith.


Presence when we feel it = very limited time when God is with us, that is when we feel it.
We may feel it at church.  Or in a prayer time.  But these feelings come and go. 
This is a single dimension of knowing God.
Limited understanding always keeps us short of the depths and riches in knowing him.


 A story for illustration. 
Ministry and the Holy Spirit only when we feel it? 
In Japan years ago I had a crisis.  My only pair of glasses broke.  They melted in a Japanese bath.  The problem was I had a number of meetings to lead and preach in and I could not see people's faces more than three rows out.   All my sense abilities for recognizing "God being present" were gone and my feelings were not real easy going as you might guess.  I went for it and did the meetings with limited visual sight.  We had amazing meetings with the power of the Spirit and all the typical things we were experiencing on the mission!   The Holy Spirit showed me that I did not need a feeling, sight or anything to walk with him and do what Jesus was doing.  
This experience changed my life and perspective.


The proof of God being present is not in our feelings. 
God is present as an ever expanding reality in and through us daily.   
The Kingdom signs witness to his presence. 


Here are some Scriptures to help lay a foundation.

Christ in you the hope of Glory - Colossians 1:27
Jesus lives in us.  We literally carry his presence everywhere we go.

The Holy Spirit lives in us.  Ezekiel 36:26-27; I Cor 3:16
The power of the Spirit is in us through Jesus.  

We have the mind of Jesus.  1 Corinthians 2:16
We can learn to know God like the Lord Jesus, in fullness and with a much deeper degree of understanding.  


Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.   Matthew 28:20
The promise of the Lord Jesus is to be with us always.  Definitely not just when we feel him.  The door stands open for us to learn what the Lord is like on a much wider scale than our feeling alone. 


God's intention is to be near us, with us.  He walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden.  In the end (Revelation 21) we will forever be with him and see him as he is;  face to face seeing Jesus the way he sees us now.  The conclusion of the story gives us insight into the present.  We can know God by grace through faith.  We can pursue him with zeal and intention.  He desires to be with us.  He responds to our desire to be with him.  I learned that God loves me too much to let me just know him when I feel him. 


Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.  Rev 3:20


He is already completely in touch with us.  
Way more than we are in touch with anyone we love.  
Way more than we are in touch we the people we love the most. 

He Knows the hairs of your head. 
He Knows the words on your lips before they leave. 
He Knows the days of our lives.
He Sees us clearly in all circumstances. 
 Psalm 139






We also have the The Kingdom signs as witness to his presence. 
When the Kingdom is present....
There will be love.  It is the first fruit of the Holy Spirit.  Gal 5:22
There will be deliverance and people getting free of demonic captivity.  
There will be healing.  People with get well in the presence of God. 
The presence of God is witnessed to in Worship.  

Walking in the Spirit is an all the time reality. 
Never ceasing.  Always remarkable.  
God's presence is with us.  

So, don't limit your understanding of God's presence to when you feel him. 
Let the Scripture build in you a steadfast faith in his presence. 
Learn to see him as you learn the Word and all the ways God speaks and connects with us.
Don't limit it to times when you are in prayer.  

Learn to walk with God in the same way as when you are praying!


Don't limit it to when you are at church or worshiping. 
Let thankfulness and praise fill up your day and see his Kingdom!
