Part II -
When a Jezebel does have access and
the attack occurs...
This evil spirit takes hold and occupies in cunning ways.
I will describe that in a minute.
First. LOVE
Overcoming the Jezebel is done with the greatest and most enduring power of heaven and earth, LOVE. Today there is an underlying belief among believers that power is the way we defeat the Jezebel.
Food for thought: Jesus defeated every power and saved humanity by sacrifice in love doing the Father's will. That is my interpretation of the cross. Love is at the root of everything God does. He has no need to exercise raw power. The church has the great power of love to pour out on the world.
"Winning" in a Jezebel encounter means the sons and daughters involved all come into greater glory, freedom, and grace in Christ. To win is to welcome the Kingdom and walk again in faith, hope and love.
When we begin to describe winning and overcoming against such a spiritual principality in terms of redemption and freedom for the people involved, we will be heading into the power and purpose of the Holy Spirit in flushing out and exposing this darkness.
Love endures forever. The first fruit of the Spirit is love. God is love. If we intend to confront Jezebel we need to cling to the most ordinary, pervasive, true thing in heaven, love.
Sadly, the desire for peace along with the avoidance of confrontation has created a perfect doorway for the Jezebel attack. In a culture that avoids healthy confrontation in the short run and lacks a healthy dose of discernment, the Jezebel can gain a significant foothold.
Why?
We are waging war in the invisible against principalities and powers in heavenly realms. The Kingdom of God advances against "gates" unperceived by the natural eyes of the flesh. The Jezebel attack is pure spiritual war. In truth, it is a Kingdom war. Two Kingdoms colliding in dramatic fashion.
The pain comes when a Jezebel is lodged into the fabric of the fellowship or ministry and then an attack occurs. The violence of emotional instability and unrest is at times unbearable in a Jezebel attack. It requires spiritual discernment to fight and stand. Surrender to and walking in the Spirit are primary and basic to both discerning and overcoming this demonic attack.
Emotions and the Jezebel
We should not be surprised at the degree to which the Jezebel attack stirs up emotional wounds, unrest, and chaos. The heart and soul of the Jezebel attack are focused on intimacy and worship on relationships and kingdom structures. These are highly emotional avenues of response and relationship with God.
Most often, when one encounters the attack of a Jezebel spirit, there is a high degree of emotion.
Situations with a high degree of emotion are often volatile. They also tend to entrench people in their point of view or understanding of a situation. The Jezebel love raw emotional upheaval. This principality loves it when an entire community is swimming in uncertainty and self-righteous judgment.
911 Jezebel Attack: Five Things to NOT Do -
Jeff Reynolds' new book is available now.

What might it look like when things explode in a Jezebel attack. Some examples are in order.
1. When that email arrives, addressed to all the leaders or the whole church, if those emails are available, that calls into question the basis of the pastor or his wife's authority or leadership without "warning" from the most amazing volunteer the church has ever had. Of course, it sets up the opportunity for the leader to be doubted and defamed throughout. Or at the least massively doubted through the sowing of questions of any and all kinds that suggest information is withheld or hidden in the background. Typically there is a doctrinal or justice issue on the line that the writer leaves no room to disagree with. And typically the writer takes complete last word on the topic over rightful and seasoned leadership. Sowing doubt filled energy into what is already present in the fellowship, possibly fear or manipulation and control. Which in turn creates an explosion of fear when the Jezebel releases the message, the story, the inflammatory news.
Most vulnerable are those who have unresolved wounds, already carry issues against the leadership or have had their ears seasoned with doubt prior to the outbreak.
2. When key supporting leaders drawback, seem to no longer believe in the credibility of their leadership and have direct contact with people who have issues with key leadership, the stage is set and the message can flow with perfect impact. It doesn't matter if the message is true and or without substantial or real doctrine or righteousness issues behind it. Often, it is pure slander.
This looks much like Absalom at the gate. The cry is "give me justice" as the King is not willing. This version pits the family against itself fueled by the voice of the Jezebel. Letting everyone know they have been wronged except the party that wronged them, the Jezebel spins the message in covert and behind the scenes fashion. Typically this is the person advocating for justice while tearing down the leadership the Lord put into place. This case against the target leader is rooted deeply in accusation and suggestion of injustice, inflicting hurt and lack of mercy. Of course in a power-based control focused church this calls out terrible control based and power based action against the attack and the people. This is a situation for love, patience, self-control, and healing. This is the kind of situation the redemptive power of the Holy Spirit can thrive and heal with power.
3. When the prophetic voices give directive prophecy in the form of an ultimatum. Typically negative, these words pit believers against each other in judgment and usually come from an angry God who is fed up with "the lack", "the effect" or the "spiritual impact" of those in question.
Jezebel loves "superior revelation" and "control of knowledge" as a posture of relationships or position. Everything is borrowed. Jezebel cannot originate spiritual truth or power. The Jezebel functions in counterfeit. Much like spiritists or diviners the supernatural is engaged but in the realms of the soul. Piecing together information, demonic information and intuitive conclusions, a Jezebel can sound as if they are prophetic. But they typically are far from being prophetic. They are expert borrowers. This kind of attack usually occurs with unseasoned prophetic voices who have not learned to 1) "follow the way of love"(I Cor 14:1) 2) Those who walk in unresolved brokenness or relationships lacking alignment and harmony with divinely called leadership 3) Wrong understandings of prophetic ministry in New Testament times. Typically the word, which may have merit, is mixed with the attitudes, broken vision and mindset of the prophetic voice. The word is passing through brokenness and wounds and unresolved relationship issues. The Kingdom order of honor and the culture of love is not guiding the prophetic voice. It is outside of healthy and life-giving grace in the Holy Spirit.

We want to stop the encounter and get done with the emotional turmoil. We want to calm the storm and often "meditate" extensively on how to cut the family/church crisis off at the pass. As the emotional upheaval winds up our natural response is to back off and hope it will wind down. In doing so, we simply allow the infestation of the Jezebel to increase and position itself for an even larger explosion in the future.
To defeat this spirit we must leave behind our own soulish power base and move completely into the realms of the Spirit and love.
When we search for weapons in the earthly realms we remain in the realms of the soul.
In the midst of a Jezebel crisis, remember this, fear is the key tool. It is not a viable tool in the Kingdom. It is not a weapon used to fight in the realms of the Spirit. We do not bring people into fear to bring about a Kingdom and grace-filled or redemptive result. Perfect love moves in and cast out the fear. This is the presence of Jesus Christ. The fear is often attached to the threat of loss. Loss of relationships, ministry position, the crumbling of a ministry, loss of friendships and family cohesion. The attack is typically personal and therefore the kingdom agent empowered by God to bring redemptive grace into motion is filled with fear in an attempt to render their authority useless.
The temptation is to draw upon the soul power we have become familiar with in ourselves. When we seek to control the situation, we are in fact fighting with the Jezebel spirit on its terms. This is to be avoided at all costs. You cannot succeed in this posture. You can succeed in the power and wisdom of the Spirit and the righteousness peace and joy of the Kingdom. You can succeed in the power of healing and love. You cannot succeed fighting the Jezebel on the terms the principality sets up. Holy Spirit victory is not in the way of control or of the soul.
Remember. Love's greatest witness was in Jesus. He laid down his life for his friends.
Are we willing to lay down everything in trust to the Holy Spirit?
Often as the struggle emerges in the form of loss or the threat of loss, our survival mechanisms kick in and we are tempted to lean heavily on soul power and our human ability of thought. The underlying presupposition being that we can think ahead of this crisis. And yet, when this kind of tactic is in play we often find ourselves steps behind our adversary. Human wisdom is not enough, neither is book learning enough to defeat this principality. Power and wisdom in the Holy Spirit are enough. The problem is we are so accustomed to operating in the latter that we do not really have any weapons at our disposal in the Holy Spirit and his ways.
Do you fear to lose your position in the ministry? That most often means much more than your income. Typically it is your friends, ministry friends, income and vocation. Your reputation, family peace and possibly your living situation. That is a challenging plate to sort through. No wonder we collapse into soulish actions and resort to control and power to quell the crisis. In the end, this will not heal the Jezebel or the spiritual environment created by this principality. Rather, it reinforces it, deepens it and widens the stronghold.
The Jezebel goes for the juggler of these issues. Typically putting a leader up against the wall of credibility and authority in terms that do not equate to calling and commission in the Lord.
Yet we cannot confuse "fighting a Jezebel" with our own fight in these areas.
It is easy and an easy way to fall into this trap. Now we are fighting for survival verses for the Kingdom.
We have to put the mission of Christ first regardless of our own personal outcome.
The choices required in a Jezebel attack directly connect to deep and powerful issues of leadership, love, and calling.
In my understanding, that is why there are such violence and strong emotions in the midst of a Jezebel attack.
We must lay down our own needs for peace in such encounters.
The need to appear as if we are in total control of the fellowship, ministry, family? Because in reality, we are not in total control. We are servants and bond slaves. Jesus is the Head, and as the head, he has entrusted to our position, ministry assignments, and authority.
We are not vested with position and reward by agreement or contract in the Kingdom of God.
The Lord is our provider and sustainer in his ministry. We cannot be receiving and walking in the personal need to feel assurance in our own abilities if the people are the source, can we? Jesus is the Source of measure and assurance of ministry and assignment. Paul did not seek to put his own assessment of his work before others, Jesus is and was the only worthy judge of his fulfillment of the assignment. Any attachment to the people is a soul tie that can be capitalized on by the Jezebel spirit. That spirit will drive a wedge into the deep places of the heart between the people, God and the minister. A deep heart wound that requires spiritual ministry to heal, the one in authority can be confronted deeply in the weakness of their soul.
Jezebel runs free in the ways of the soul. Soul power is very different from Spirit power. Yet, in the current climate, it can be difficult to discern the difference.
One of the reasons for the current level of Jezebel stronghold is the lack of true, deep, and clear discernment of the ways and working of the HOLY SPIRIT.
Today we have soulish worship. Worship that is identified as spiritual but makes no demands on those who worship to engage Jesus in the cross, resurrection and ascension power of his work. When worship is a form of entertainment in any fashion, Jezebel will have this foothold. Worship is rooted and established in the deepest revelation and understanding of the Lord Jesus here on earth today. Anything short of the revelation of Jesus is a fabrication or counterfeit.
The Jezebel spirit needs a person. A person who has an agreement with some key things in and between relationships. The level of agreement translates to the level of chaos sown. Covering over wounds and hurts through an agreement with lies from the enemy builds up this captivity. The opposite is true of the Saints. We come into transformation and healing in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. We repent of our ways and come out of the dominion of darkness. We enter into sanctification and healing in a progressive and ongoing transformation, becoming like Jesus as we know him and the Father in the power of the Spirit.
"I will never let that happen again"
"I won't let the church leadership hurt anyone"
"I won't let them shut me down again, this is a word from God"
As long as we "soul search" for solutions we remain in the clutches of the conflict and in the realms of soul power. I will have to explore soul power more deeply later.
Love brought forth in the leading and power of the Holy Spirit is the way to defeat the Jezebel.
Why? Because those in captivity to this spirit have deep wounds and hurts that need deliverance and healing. When we confront with power and control we sow the seeds for wider hurt, more wounded people and greater destruction.
LOVE
And this often means acting in a simple, loving, slow approach. It also typically means not using the weapons of the world. The key weapon loosed in a Jezebel attack is fear and the supporting cast member is control.
A big part of a Jezebel attach is the turmoil that surrounds us when it is loosed. Often "getting it under control" becomes the focus.
When the focus is relieving the emotional turmoil, something most pastors want as soon as possible, we most likely will not defeat the spirit or dislodge it from its foothold. This is one of the most challenging aspects of warring against a Jezebel spirit; the emotional atmosphere typically envelopes many people. It is part of the attack and positioning of the Jezebel to affect as many as possible in the attack. Our response makes all the difference.
If we simply wait for the turmoil to "calm down" and do not confront, we will find the Jezebel to have gained significant ground. This is one of the more significant things a Jezebel will do; hide and go quiet to avoid detection or confrontation.
Jezebel loves to make you, the true authority, into the "aggressor".
As we turn up the heat to "show all that has been happening behind the scenes" the Jezebel turns the tables and makes it look as though you are overbearing, aggressive, and unloving. Which in turn cranks up other things in us. Self-righteousness. Lack of mercy. The call for justice.
When things calm down, which they will if the Jezebel spirit is not confronted in love, the Jezebel goes quiet and waits for the next opportunity. If there is anything left at this point the parties are typically happy for a calm. Nothing of consequence will occur if there is no confrontation with the Jezebel. But a great deal occurs within the family or body of Christ in which the spirit has lodged itself. I believe this scenario is part of the smoke screen a Jezebel will throw up to cloud the real and most simple issue.
The Jezebel spirit has no authority, no actual prophecy, no actual miracles that anyone can identify. The spirit barrows stories and dreams up dreams from their own spirit or rehearses the stories of others. Here is a key insight. The Jezebel will identify with the Kings and seek to gain access, power and position through their authority.
The only way a Jezebel gets in is through intimidation and abdication.
It is allowed, tolerated, and given authority by those in the Kingdom who abdicate and leave their divine authority unexercised.
So, I've said that the Jezebel requires confronting. It is essential and necessary for the people involved and for the hope of the Holy Spirit to enter into the situation. A great temptation is involved as we prepare to confront the Jezebel. Confronting in a position of power, publically and or to move in a controlling fashion over a person is the very ground the Jezebel will thrive in. Here are some suggested approaches to confronting a Jezebel. Keep in mind, even in the confrontation the Jezebel is spinning a story and working the angles. Do not confront alone. The story will spin even further out of control as the Jezebel paints the behind the scenes picture of your confrontation.
Suggestions for confronting a Jezebel.
1) Never alone - always with another. Repentance can occur and later words will be twisted and turned. Confront in two's for wisdom. Feedback. The ability to pull back and take a break. The ability to confer in the Spirit.
2) Consider using a recording device and ask to use it. If the person being confronted says no. Then do not conduct the meeting. Their interpretation of the meeting will be quickly dispersed through the wounded network the Jezebel is already using, carrying along further the crisis and giving it new momentum and doubt.
3) Neutral locations. Everyone needs to feel at ease and ok with the environment. Don't force an environment or the people who attend.
4) Be very clear about the nature of the meeting and make sure you have supporting materials and back up for your confrontation.
The goal for any Jezebel confrontation is to bring freedom to the person enslaved in the stronghold. Of course, this can be exceptionally difficult with the circumstances involved. A deep and abiding trust in the Lord Jesus is required to stand and prevail against this destructive principality.
Jesus is a Master at bringing freedom.
We have lots to learn.
