I've been through some challenging trials. I'm sure you have as well.
Dusk in Middle Deschutes Canyon |
My whole life is ordered around the Kingdom first, and I run into scrapes of all kinds just like you.
On the flip side of trials and challenges that test my faith,
I've seen the incredible reality of prayers answered and miracles of grace and love in this broken down world.
Psalms 133 has a wider reality. When my own life is in harmony and unity great things occur. I've found prayer to be the center piece of that unity.
Within my own family, not to mention the family of God and those far from Jesus, I've seen healing, miracles, provision, incredible favor, loving kindness, and direct answers to prayers over and over and over again.
It is truly exciting to partner with and walk with God.
I've discovered, and I'm sure you have as well, that Prayer is the essential way to....
See into the unseen realities swirling around our lives - the God realities in the Holy Spirit. The redemptive, powerful, favor-filled, steadfast love paths that our amazing King Jesus leads us onto.
See into the way ahead with Jesus, step for step.
Literal steps in the world corresponding with following Jesus and walking in the Spirit. Being in his desires and will as we move throughout the world. Hear the voice of God and his incredible daily encouragements for walking in the Spirit.
Knowing with great assurance our path is in HIM, and through HIM, and by HIM.
I've discovered prayer is both
War
and Intimacy
Combined.
Steadfast in love for us, the rest we have in Christ and our membership in the Family of God, is a never ending river of loving kindness.
Peace and rest are the abiding place of intimate prayer. The Holy Spirit continuously meets me there.
Prayer in "reverent devotion and obedience" destroyed death and opened the new and living way in Jesus (Hebrews 5:7-9).
Prayer moves mountains
Prayer heals the sick
Prayer is always valuable in every situation. Prayer extends the compassion of God in every instance.
Prayer unites us with the heart of Jesus and informs us of his ways and desires.
Prayer effectively brings miracles into motion.
Prayer is quiet.
Prayer is War and loud and aggressive toward evil for the hope of redemption.
Prayer does not condemn.
Prayer HOPEs.
Prayers does not limit.
Prayer flings us into the landscape of the impossible and gives us the means of seeing the Kingdom of God come in power and love.
Often, we know the facts of prayer, the basic teachings and all these things I just presented. Yet, we don't go forward in prayer. We go up and down in applying the warfare of prayer because war is intense. But we must remain steadfast as the IMPOSSIBLE does not show up on a schedule. It just appears.
"The end of all things is near.
Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray."
I Peter 4:7
3 Keys to Continuing in the Spirit and Prayer
Persistence - Insight - Action
Persistence in Unified Prevailing Prayer?
If we strain at prayer and look for answers everyday we can lose our focus and heart in persisting in prayer.
American culture is very goal oriented and pragmatic. Prayer can be much more mystery, non-linear and spontaneous. The things prayer can accomplish cannot be done without Jesus (John 15:5).
I grow vegetables and flowers in my green house. If I go out there every day and look at the progress of the planted seeds, I can get discouraged. Farming offers little for the day to day inspection. But over a week or two the whole garden can spring up. Or so it seems to those who are not looking at the fields every day. Over time my green house gets crazy overgrown. Fruit, flowers, so much stuff you can just walk in and pic something to eat everyday. So is a well watered garden of prayer with persistence. You can walk in everyday and eat something rich, sweet and compelling.
Yes, we need some direction, but in my opinion the best prayer is rooted and established in love and in walking with the Holy Spirit.
Seen as a journey, prayer takes on a whole different freedom and responsibility.
It is both War and Intimacy.
Prayer is not a simple math equation. It changes things in an instant and over time, and sometimes over a long time with lots of prayers. The answers to prayer seem to spring up out of nowhere and land on our door steps.
It is at the same time incredibly powerful and incredibly weak.
Weak in that we are taking the action of heaven and not being our typical action oriented goal oriented selves. At least that is how things are perceived. What prayer appears to be in the natural world and mind, total weakness and waste of energies or passivity toward our goals, is in the heavenly economy pure raw power when mixed with faith.
Here in lies the trouble for us regarding prayer. We want results. We want prayer to fulfill our goals and the picture of the future we envision. We want prayer to do something particular for us. Which of course fits perfectly into our vision and perceived direction most beneficial to us. And in fact prayer does do this. Yet, this is a small sliver of the breadth and width and length of prayer.
Prayer itself is borderless in Christ. Like his love we grow into it through revelation and experience and action in it.
The question is not is prayer powerful? The discernment questions is are we looking to use God's power to prosper our own lives alone. Such prayers may go unanswered forever. Prayers are answered for us. God is good. But the results we are measuring may not be those in the Glory of God. Those that originate with Jesus and bring all his enemies under his feet.
Even the Desert Blooms with a little water |
Prayer is about results in the seen world from the "unseen" Kingdom of God. Prayer is about overcoming the world through our faith and trust in Jesus (I John 5:5). Prayer is about the eternal realities of God's Kingdom erupting in the world and lives we live.
Alpha and OMEGA
The temple in heaven, where Jesus ministers as High Priest of the New Covenant, is where real, powerful, true, hope filled, immense prayer originates. It originates with the A&O. The High Priest and Apostle Jesus, is sending out servants of his will all over the globe. Angels, Saints, churches, ministries, all in the motion of the sending ONE.
Prayer is discovered through abiding in the Father's will. Abiding in Jesus, being with him, opens the eyes of our hearts to his goals and plans and actions in us and the world around us.
If we persist in prayer we will see remarkable outcomes and benefits at every step. We find ourselves immersed in the Presence of God. That alone on a consistent basis is amazingly life-giving. We gain insight and wisdom. We gain more character and hope as we are persistent in prayer.
Insight - prophetic insight.
Knowing the times and the season. Knowing your assignment and season adds a powerful measure of faith and authority to your walk. Persistence in prayer offers us the daily bread of encouragement. (more to come in nest post)
Action - Faith in the face of the impossible - Proving the Gospel to the broken and busted world - Fanning the flames of hope. These are rough places being made smooth. (More to come in the next post.
For freedom Christ set you and I free. His ways are righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. The heart, dwelling in the fullness of Christ, is rich in these three amazing graces.
You can do it. YOU can keep Pressing ON!
