Our God Gives Flood Warnings! Discerning His Path in Overwhelming Floods.

Jesus was clear,

Small is the gate

"Enter through the narrow gate,
for wide is the gate and broad the road
that leads to destruction,
and many enter through it.
But
small is the gate,
and narrow the road that leads to life,
and few find it."
Matthew 7:13-14

Staying on that path, that narrow road,
requires discernment, wisdom and to live as a child of light in Christ.

So what can we do?  How do we move forward in a flood?

How do we overcome in overwhelming waters?

When the enemy comes like a flood.....

1. God gives flood warnings.
Keep and eye open for prophetic grace and encouragement that comes in advance of any flood.  The disciples were encouraged over and over by Jesus regarding his suffering and looming sacrifice on the cross.  They did not understand at the time, but it proved vital in sustaining grace after the crucifixion.  At the last supper Jesus pointed them to what was coming and encouraged them with instructions on keeping their hearts through the storm. (John 14)  He also warned Peter and gave him instructions for after he denied the Lord 3 times.  Paul experienced flood warnings all the way to Jerusalem and captivity.  He also had visitation at sea and relayed vital information to the crew of the ship he was on.
God is supremely faithful to give us flood warnings in advance.  We need to have ears and be diligent with the prophetic grace we receive, the divine dreams we have and the seasons of the Scripture we are in.  If we are walking in the Spirit, he is good to give us what we need to overcome the world in the floods.

2. God is creatively doing more than we ask or imagine. (Ephesians 3:20)
We hear so much about holding on and letting go just before the real victory arrives.  Walking with God is a faith journey.  It will always carry a measure of "faith required" if we are walking in the Spirit.  These are the ways of God in transforming us and making us into the image of his Son Jesus.  These are not the ways of the world or of worldly accomplishment, power and success.  The Kingdom runs on completely "other" power and wisdom.  That is clearly laid out for us in 1 Corinthians 2:1-4

And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

Divine wisdom and power are introduced to us by grace and the loving kindness of God.  His power is wrapped in a deep and abiding love.  His ways are good through and through.  His love evident in all he does.

We need to focus in on the presence of God and abiding as sons and daughters when the flood waters roar around us.  As we do, we see our God himself becoming a flood on the enemy.

Isaiah 59:19b:    When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.

Isaiah 28:2 says, ‘Behold, the Lord has a mighty and strong one, like a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, like a flood of mighty waters overflowing, Who will bring them down to the earth with His hand.’

3. Promise paves the way to our deliverance
God's promises are as good as his character and love.  There is no one like Jesus in all the universe.  His love is remarkable and indescribable.  His love surrounds us in everything and is working 24/7 for our good.  (Rom 8:28-29)  The Promises of God in Scripture and through prophetic grace are typically remarkably sufficient to sustain us in the story and guide us with wisdom and understanding.   This is a way of God we need to take note of.  He tells us in advance, though sometimes more like unpacking a riddle or searching out buried treasure, but he does encourage us with what we need before the flood.  It is up to us to take the promise and hold them up in our hearts, minds, soul and strength.  Overwhelming floods are last ditch efforts of the enemy to thwart the mind of the Lord and the power of grace each of us carry.  The promises of God raised up into our mouths, hearts, minds and soul and become intense weapons against the enemies flood.   WE walk in the promises by faith.  We are saved by grace through faith.  We continue to be saved, sanctified and transformed by the Love of God through faith.
Israel was invited by God into the land of promise.  He said it was theirs.  He gave it to them.  Their task was to possess it and take it.  Much like them we are believing the promise of Christ through his work on the cross, his resurrection front running new life and his ascension to sit down at the Father's right hand.  Our high priest is eternal, unshakable and filled with promise.  That promise is activated by faith in the Son of God.

Our natural instincts in a real flood will sustain us.

Get to high ground.   Psalm 27:4-5

In the midst of the flood lift up praise and worship.  It raises the head and exalts our vision.
Psalm 27:6  Then our heads will be lifted up above the enemies that surround us.

The greatest promise we have is the promise of abiding with Jesus in a love that nothing can separate us from.  (Romans 8:37-39)  He is actively and fervently pursuing that love.

And all of it is perfected in Jesus Christ with the power to accomplish it built in ------ through faith in Jesus.

Much love to you in the Lord,

We'll be more than conquerors through Christ Jesus!
Are we just building up campfire stories for heaven?

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, yet our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17For our light and temporary affliction is producing for us an eternal glory that far outweighs our troubles. 18So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.…2 Cor 4:1
