Put up some smoke! Thinking Past the Cross? Christ - Resurrected and Ascended!

The Cross is the Doorway to new life.

but we don't abide there.

Yes.  We pick it up each day and rise into the new life he created for us.

Jesus was three days in the tomb and then Resurrected.
Front-runner
Forerunner
Firstborn from among the dead.
Resurrected from the dead.
Then he ascended directly from earth to sit down at the right hand of the Father.

Jesus is the one person who changes everything about life, about now, about the future about everything we know, touch, think, feel.

We are resurrected from the dead if buried with him.  Romans 6:3-4

Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus
were baptized into his death?
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that,
just as Christ was raised from the dead
through the glory of the Father,
we too may live a new life.

New creations.
New creatures.
We passed over from the dominion of darkness into the glorious dominion of Christ.

LORD of ALL   Phil 2:9-11
Faithful Witness of the Father's will
King of the Kings of the EARTH.  Rev 1:5

We have the mind of Christ.   I Corinthians 2:16
Christ lives in us                          Col 1:27

We are to die daily and embrace the cross,
and then we are to rise and ascend with him.

Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.
Luke 9:23

So do we walk around dead all day?
Some believer do.
They are so focused on themselves, their short-comings, their sins. With them as the focus they never put up smoke filled offerings.

We are living sacrifices  Romans 12:1-2

We are risen with him to new life.

Put up some smoke.
Get the places you live your life filled with smoke from the offerings you make as a living sacrifice.

In the Cross Christ put to death our sins by his blood.
In his resurrection he conquered death and erased it's sting forever.
Believers rightly focus on the cross.
But often we leave out the victory of the resurrection.   Unless it's Easter.

The Resurrection is the game changer.

It is the new life offered to us in the power of the Spirit.
It is new mindsets and new ways of seeing the world through the inheritance of Jesus.
The resurrection is the new man loose on the earth.
The new man who is no longer a slave to sin.
The new man or woman is not preoccupied with defeating sin.
They are pre-ocuppied with living in the walk of the Spirit.
Sowing to the Spirit.
Walking in the Spirit
Living in the reality of the rule and reign of Jesus.

Dynamic Abundant life rooted and established in the love of Jesus is resurrection life

Typically Christians rightly perceive the power of the Cross.
Typically they camp there and don't live in the power of resurrection
Rarely do we hear about the power of Christ and the forever realities of him siting down at the Father's right hand.
The full circle of his power, love and inheritance, are three; the Cross, the Resurrection and the Ascension.

IT is FINISHED!
Nothing can shake the reality of his Kingdom which is here upon the earth and advancing daily.
The Gospel of the Kingdom includes all three in the power of the Spirit.

Paul says,

And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.  I Corinthians 15:14-17

Sin Death and the Devil were defeated in Christ through.....
The Cross
The Resurrection
The Ascension
All Three core realities of the work of Jesus making a complete inheritance for us in the Lord Jesus.

Don't get me wrong.  The Cross is amazing.  I never cease discovering the wonder of the Cross and the power it carried in defeating sin and setting us free.  I die with him to live with him.  My life is hidden in him, seated in the heavens, just like yours.  It is discovered daily through the power of resurrection life.

The resurrection is the discovery of the new eternal life here and now upon the earth.  A life filled with the power of his Kingdom rule and reign.
We are to be like him here and now.  Not in some far off day.  The true and real power of a Christian life is rooted in Christ through love and powered by the reality of resurrection life in us now.

Without the Resurrection and a clear sense that we are a Kingdom of priests, a holy nation unto the Lord, we can find ourselves stuck in sentimental cycles of powerless faith.  Rather we are called to overcoming victory and power through Christ our LORD.  Called as those who are walking the earth with a resurrected power and mindset.

I See the Door of Hope for Us in the Valley of Achor - Rivers and Streams Making the Heart Glad

You will no longer call me Baali but Ishi - Hosea 2:16

"It will come about in that day," declares the LORD, "That you will call Me Ishi And will no longer call Me Baali. 17"For I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, So that they will be mentioned by their names no more.…

Important distinction.

Husband   vrs    Lord and Master

The Demonic always extracts from us.  Demands without filling us.  Takes but does not provide for us.   These are the elemental spirits - the base and common ways of the earth - passing away and pulling all in with it.

God is not like that.
He is like a Husband.
Committed in covenant love.
Jesus made the way driven by love.

Now a door stands wide open for all to come out from wrath, away from idols, and into the rooted and established love of Jesus.

Sent by the Father,  Jesus was the first apostle of Love and redemption.

The church needs to learn to both "speak the truth in Love" and believe in the "redemptive power of Love" at the same time.

Love hopes all things.  Love believes all things.  All things that God originates in love never fail!

Baali - requires prostitution - sexual distortion and unfaithfulness to God and all those around us.

  • Idols only give when you follow the rules
  • Idols only give when you give them what they demand.
  • Idols only satisfy for a moment then they rule you for more.
  • Idols are dead and lifeless and only carry the hopes people place onto them - vain and worthless reflections of our own brokenness.
  • Idols are created things, tangible things of this world.  Made by humanity they can only give back the fallen reality of the world in which their power resides.
  • Idols are mute.  They only voice we hear in them is ourselves, our desires and our aches for THE voice of God.  It will never be heard in an idol.
  • Idols are fantasies.  Vain attempts at making life something more but absolutely and totally lacking the power for anything transcendent.
  • Idols are cruel masters.  They invite us into forms of worship that enhance our distortions and brokenness and suck blood from our wounds
  • Idols disintegrate over time.  They carry no intrinsic value of their own.  They are made in our image and in our fallen-ness.  Left to themselves they loose all power and crumble to dust.
  • Idols only have power when humanity gives themselves over to them.

Baali - called Israel to worship in the form of prostitution.
Worship was sex exchanged for the prosperity of the land, crops and animals.   Unholy, debased, unclean, prostitution never produces freedom or true enjoyment.  Sex created by Yahweh is found in covenant as a blessing on top of relationship; adding richness, enhancing intimacy and blessing and serving the other in loveBaali enslaves to lust and calls people to worship as if sex is the relationship.  It sets up temple prostitutes and enslaves them to a cruel taskmaster god who requires them to give themselves to debasement and dishonor with strangers who have no covenant or love.  Just lust, bondage, stealing, and cruelty.

There I will give her back her vineyards,
and will make the Valley of Achor[a] a door of hope.
There she will respond[b] as in the days of her youth,
as in the day she came up out of Egypt.  Hosea 2;15

Ishi is covenant love.  Always there. Always hoping.  Always believing.  Seeing one in the true light of God's eyes.  This is the glory of the testimony of Jesus, the spirit of prophecy.  It is seeing with the eyes of resurrection and the ascension.  Seeing with the eyes of Jesus into the powerful and purposeful love of God at work in the lives of those around us.

Hosea was called to retain the covenant in light of his wife's unfaithfulness. To believe in love when it was not evident, responsive, worthy of love in response.

Unfaithful we all were when Christ died for us.
We were under the task master of Baali - the worship of idols and all things made - under the wrath of God which is coming upon the whole earth.

Jesus triumphed over death, sin and the Devil and made a new way through his blood shed on the cross.

That way is evidenced in the Resurrected Lord, the Firstborn over all creation.  Our Brother Jesus who is like us and overcame sin, death and the Devil.   We are alive in him with resurrected power and ascended with him into heavenly places.

Love never fails because....
Love cannot be bought - no money no price   Isaiah 55:1-3
Love believes the dreams of God over us.   I Corinthians 13
It is long-suffering and patient in believing what God calls forth.
Love looks like God himself.   God is love.     I John 4:8
Love knows that HIS love will win the day and overcome evil, rather than being swallowed up by it.  This is the root of faith and zeal.
Jesus loved us with his life.

Believers today may be living in the Baal Master's mindset.
Surrendering to the idols of the age.
Giving up hope over that which the Father is supremely focused on for redemption.

Remember......

There is a Door of Hope in Valley of Troubles

1. There are no DEAD ENDS in God.   He possess infinite plans to prosper us in Christ.    Isiah 43; Jeremiah 29:11-13

2. There is no grater authority in HEAVEN or ON the EARTH - infinite power to see it accomplished in us.  Matthew 28:18-19   All authority!

3. Troubles provide doorways to healing, transformation and expansion of our grace and glory.   Infinite victory for heart, mind, soul and strength in Jesus.  James 1   Put on some joy and victory as you see that God's love is in charge.

4.Testing of our faith provides us with perseverance and endurance.  His word is infinitely efficacious, it possesses everything required to bring it to fruition.
Be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might.

Jesus Asks Us, "What do you want me to do for you?"

The people that stop Jesus in his tracks tend to get his full attention.

And what they ask for!

Blind Bartimaeus did just that.  Outside Jericho.

Jesus – “What do you want me to do for you?”

Our answers tells us much about our
treasure,
our life desires,
our understanding of the Kingdom
and what is first in our lives.

This is a profound question from the Lord.   IN a nothing is impossible mindset…..What does it mean to have Jesus ask us this question?
This miracle follows the one at Bethany – Raising Lazarus.

Jesus is the one who opens the eyes of the blind.
They see him first!
Jesus is the one who raises the dead.
They find life in him alone.

Hunger and desperation in request of Jesus always brought a response.
Those who stopped him in his tracks found healing, sight, deliverance.

Are you hungry enough to stop Jesus in his tracks?
Are you willing to interrupt him while he walks with the crowds?

In New Testament times Jericho stood some distance to the south-east of the ancient one, and near the opening of the valley of Achor.
Promise: I will make the valley of Achor a door of hope.

"Therefore, behold, I will allure her, Bring her into the wilderness And speak kindly to her. 15"Then I will give her her vineyards from there, And the valley of Achor as a door of hope. And she will sing there as in the days of her youth, As in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt. 16"It will come about in that day," declares the LORD, "That you will call Me Ishi And will no longer call Me Baali.… Hosea 2

Bartimaeus said, "I want to receive my sight."
And his first sight was of Jesus.
When Israel passes into the land of promise she will see Jesus first.
The strongholds of Jericho will fall to his love and power in the simple requests of those who cry out to him.
He is the Father's sight to behold.
Hebrews 1

There is much going on these days in Christian circles.
Hopes of Revival.
Tons of teachings.
Worship and Prayer in many forms.
It seems the water mark has risen since the crash of 2008.

With all that is happening, the ONE Desire of the hungry is Jesus Christ.
There is only one to which we are called to abide.
In all of the circumstances life throws our way......
There is ONE Desire in the Nations that can restore our sight.
Jesus Christ.

The real question is What do you want him to do for you??

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8"For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.…   Matthew 7:7

Then Jesus said, "Receive your sight."

What are you asking, seeking and knocking for?

Is it faith required?   Can you see?

Does it originate at the Throne of the Alpha and Omega?

Forging Personal Unity with Jesus - Stopping Fragmentation: The Flesh - Spirit of Adoption - Walking in the Spirit

Walking in the Spirit -One day we seem to soar the next we are on the floor.

The on and off again nature of walking in the Spirit without a root or foundation causes us to win one day and feel like utter failures the next.

So, when....Everything about the Lord calls us toward deeper peace, trust and rest, why is it we have such up and down walking?

It seems that our walks with the Lord reflect rest, peace and trust in limited quantities.  When the reality of what Jesus speaks about...

Abundant -
Rivers of living water
Life - erupting in us..

is not flowing,
the natural drift toward asking questions
may be the Spirit's lead back to life.

Again.  What is missing when we feel Christ is missing?

The center, the foundation ground appears to have eluded us.

The very nature of the call toward peace and rest in Jesus is counter to a fragmented life.

So, what is the missing link?  What is the part we have lost?

Is there something missing?

Is this the way we are intended to walk in the Spirit?

Life for Americans is fragmented.

Life for American believers can be astoundingly fragmented.

Fragmented means:
...existing or functioning as though broken into separate parts; disorganized; dis-unified:

Hundreds of denominations and cultural expressions of Christianity flood the landscape. The smallest details taking on vast importance, we fracture and fracture into smaller and smaller parts.  How does the average believer even walk in such a landscape?

We are in relationship with vast numbers of believers but we do not carry a bond of peace or the depths of love.  It is lost on a million parts and pieces looking to align or fit together.  When our energies are dolled out to a 1000 different divergent groups, the effect is lost.

he[a] made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.  Ephesians 1:9-10

It is important to note that Jesus is not gathering everyone together and helping us get along in our fragmentation.  He himself is our unity.  Alpha and Omega, he is the start and ending of everything known.  Every knee bows to him.  Not every faction comes into agreement with some plan he has fronted.  Every plan comes from him if it is part of his Kingdom.  He begins all things and ends all things.  None of the plans in the Kingdom contradict or conflict or compete with harmony, unity and love rooted and established in Christ himself.

The elemental spirits of the age fill everything outside of Christ.

Jesus is the unity that pours peace over fragmentation.  He is the rest that centers dis-unified relationships.   Everything will one day find it's place in him.  His Kingdom is arriving each day and growing.  Believers can start today.  With each other.  With Jesus front and center of our worship, devotion, love and service.   Then we turn toward each other and offer the same in HIS NAME.

We fight on so many fronts at once.  Time to focus the battle.

I'm making a proposal.  I believe the way to rest and peace is found in something much more rooting than a performance based "walking in the Spirit".    I believe it may be focused in the Adoption as Sons, in the Spirit of adoption through the Holy Spirit.  Rom 8:14-15

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[a] And by him we cry, “Abba,[b] Father.”

The flesh - fallen, sin affected, unable to please God.  In fact at war with Godis clearly not a pathway to rest or peace.  Romans 8:7-8

Walking in the Spirit - one day we seem to soar the next we are on the floor wailing in failure.   The on and off again nature of walking in the Spirit without a root or foundation causes us to win one day and feel like utter failures the next.   This is a tough way to live and definitely hard to maintain joy.

The bridge = The spirit of Adoption as sons and daughters?????

The depths of abiding rest and peace reside in the reality put in motion that we are sons and daughters.   We are family members with, through, in Jesus Christ.   This is by grace through faith.  This is by faith through grace.

We can find a whole different dynamic to walking in the Spirit when it is rooted and established in love and informed as family members with Christ.  All who call on his name are family members.

Sure, we all cause some friction and are pretty interesting in and of ourselves much of the time....especially as family members.   Yet we are united in the ONE LORD who is setting all things in order.  He is our peace, who has broken down every wall, every hostility, every division between us.

Sons and Daughters as members of the family focus on:

  • Abiding, love, welcoming, and receiving the Lord -  Rev 3:20
  • Prayer shifts from a job and work to the center of knowing and being in the presence of God.   John 15
  • Prayer affirms our standing and enlivens our spirits before the Lord.  Hebrews 10:19-24
  • Fellowship - as those saved by grace and the love of God they see each other as members of the one family.   We bring grace with us.  We sow love.  We believe the best and hope for breakthrough.   We walk together in Jesus expecting his victory to bring lasting change to all of us.

"And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' 8"Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.  Matthew 10:8-9

Adoption is permanent inclusion into a family.  Taking on the NAME.  Receiving all the benefits of the Family.  Rooting and establishing in the family life and ways.

Take a closer look at sonship in Scripture and the adoption we receive as followers of Jesus.  It is a powerful and rooting reality that may put some level paths on our journey in becoming more like Jesus.
