Ever choked on something. Scary. Everything stops and our total focus goes to breathing again.
Following Jesus and walking in the Spirit is guaranteed to bring you into who you were made to be.
So, If you are stuck. Know this. There is always a way out in Jesus.
Simple. Direct. Now.
Really. Right now.
So, Why is it that Christians, when they are chocking on the worries of the world, the deceit of wealth and desires for everything but seeing, knowing and experiencing eternal life in knowing Jesus here and now, don't stop everything they are doing and get some breathing going?
1. We find a way to get used to breathing less and less of the air of the Holy Spirit.
Here are a few ways that happens that I've noticed...in my life and others.

We build mindsets and lifestyles that take us out of action and say, "this is a perfectly normal state to be in". Even though our spirit is gasping for air on a daily basis and we have lost first love passion, we trudge on. We don't see the Lord moving around us and less and less we see the miracles or signs and wonders of his presence. But the world around us pays no mind.
BREAKOUT - Do what you did at first! Revelation 2:4-5

We find a church that "believes everything we believe" rather than one that "does what Jesus did". Doing what Jesus did keeps you in the work of the Spirit and the Lord's heart. We are not saved by works but we are called to "keep your spiritual zeal serving the Lord". Romans 12:11 Praying, Fasting, sharing the gospel, reaching out, welcoming strangers, carrying for the poor. Do what you did at first when you first saw Jesus and his awesome love and salvation. Go Back to the beginning.
The disconnect of teaching without action is destructive to the heart and deeply effects our ability to hear the Lord. Put your life action back into the heart and compassion of the Lord Jesus. Repent and do what you did at first.
BREAKOUT - Repent and Follow Jesus, Walk after the Spirit, Go with the Gospel and Disciple someone!
Put on the Lord Jesus and put off anything hindering you! We are welcome at the Lord's table. We are called to him by the Spirit. He wants to sit down at table with us and connect deeply.
What often stands in the way of returning to God?
Self-righteousness - we are proud and believe we've acquired this on our own or from some work of ourselves. So we beat ourselves up and honor the dead man of the flesh trying to turn us into religious people instead of grace saved by faith people. Jesus is our righteousness, peace and joy. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—
9not by works, so that no one can boast. Eph 2:8
Shame - Jesus took the shame upon himself on the cross. We cannot let it separate us from his love. Repent,
turn, get back on the way with simple confession of sin and be forgiven. Jesus' work on the cross cleanses past, present and future sins of the whole world. Get back up and start walking in Christ. Put on the garments of his grace and glory.
Condemnation - The Devil will try and get you and I to act like him toward ourselves, doing his work on ourselves. Condemnation is not part of the equation for disciples of Jesus. As much as we want to condemn our selves all the doors are open in mercy. We receive the gifts of salvation by faith in all the work of Jesus for us.
As scary and complicated as it all seems, the way to Jesus and to life is very simple. So simple people stumble over it with their sophisticated teaching and lists of 59 things to do to be free or become who you were made to be.
Shame - Jesus took the shame upon himself on the cross. We cannot let it separate us from his love. Repent,
turn, get back on the way with simple confession of sin and be forgiven. Jesus' work on the cross cleanses past, present and future sins of the whole world. Get back up and start walking in Christ. Put on the garments of his grace and glory.
