Doubt, Passivity, and Confusion. There is a better way in Jesus.

Jesus overcame the world.
Transfiguration

He did it by worshiping perfectly in the will of the Father through the CROSS.

Confronted by many circumstances that cause
Doubt
Passivity
Confusion
He walked in the Spirit and the knowledge of the Father's love and character.

Jesus worshiped his way to victory.

Jesus walked his way in prayer.

Jesus Trusted the Father completely.

Jesus loved the Father perfectly.

ON the cross Jesus cried, "my God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
IN the midst of redeeming humanity, through the sacrifice of love,
Jesus spoke the Psalm that witnessed to his victory and called Israel to see
Him there in his suffering as the Savior of Israel.

22 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
    Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?

O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer,
    and by night, but I find no rest.
Yet you are holy,
    enthroned on the praises[a] of Israel.
In you our fathers trusted;
    they trusted, and you delivered them.
To you they cried and were rescued;
    in you they trusted and were not put to shame.
But I am a worm and not a man,
    scorned by mankind and despised by the people.
All who see me mock me;
    they make mouths at me; they wag their heads;

“He trusts in the Lord; let him deliver him;
    let him rescue him, for he delights in him!”
Yet you are he who took me from the womb;
    you made me trust you at my mother's breasts.
10 On you was I cast from my birth,
    and from my mother's womb you have been my God.
11 Be not far from me,
    for trouble is near,
    and there is none to help.
12 Many bulls encompass me;
    strong bulls of Bashan surround me;
13 they open wide their mouths at me,
    like a ravening and roaring lion.
14 I am poured out like water,
    and all my bones are out of joint;
my heart is like wax;
    it is melted within my breast;
15 my strength is dried up like a potsherd,
    and my tongue sticks to my jaws;
    you lay me in the dust of death.
16 For dogs encompass me;
    a company of evildoers encircles me;
they have pierced my hands and feet[b]
17 I can count all my bones—
they stare and gloat over me;
18 they divide my garments among them,
    and for my clothing they cast lots.
19 But you, O Lord, do not be far off!
    O you my help, come quickly to my aid!
20 Deliver my soul from the sword,
    my precious life from the power of the dog!
21     Save me from the mouth of the lion!

You have rescued[c] me from the horns of the wild oxen!
22 I will tell of your name to my brothers;
    in the midst of the congregation I will praise you:
23 You who fear the Lord, praise him!
    All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him,
    and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!
24 For he has not despised or abhorred
    the affliction of the afflicted,
and he has not hidden his face from him,
    but has heard, when he cried to him.
25 From you comes my praise in the great congregation;
    my vows I will perform before those who fear him.
26 The afflicted[d] shall eat and be satisfied;
    those who seek him shall praise the Lord!
    May your hearts live forever!
27 All the ends of the earth shall remember
    and turn to the Lord,
and all the families of the nations
    shall worship before you.
28 For kingship belongs to the Lord,
    and he rules over the nations.
29 All the prosperous of the earth eat and worship;
    before him shall bow all who go down to the dust,
    even the one who could not keep himself alive.

30 Posterity shall serve him;
    it shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation;
31 they shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn,
    that he has done it.

 Doubt flew away with the encouragement of the Father.  He wrote a Psalm for Jesus and for those present.

Jesus doesn't have any of this in him.

Passivity had no place in him.  He was completely in the love of the Father.  Nothing held back.  Jesus is never passive.  He is always at work in the Fathers will.  He invites us to the same amazing place of initiating with him the Kingdom that is ever present in us and among us.  He is loving the world right now.  He is moving and doing in the Fathers accomplished work right now in us. Awake. Arise from the sleepy passivity that says yes to fear and shrinks from anything we are called to do in love of Jesus.

Confusion was wiped away with the powerful prophetic encouragement of David.  Ps 22.  Those things said in the Psalm were playing out before Jesus even as he worshiped and won the victory through his sacrifice.  BEHOLD The LAMB of GOD who takes away the sins of the whole world.
God is faithful and full of loving kindness.  He has given us everything we need in his great promises.  Pour out praise, obedience and love on confusion and "do what you did at first".  That is typically no confusing.....what we did at first.

Everything you and I do in worship, as a living sacrifice, in obedience and love for the Father is stored up for reward in heaven.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[e] destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."  Matthew 6

The Phython Spirit. Weariness, Fatigue, Confussion.

The Python Spirit (Acts 16:16)

This spiritual attack and demonic affront comes with particular characteristics and possibly during a vulnerable season of weariness and need for encouragement.

Key words
Weariness, fatigue, confusion, frustration, heaviness, depressions, oppression, pressure, discouragement, factions, divisions.
I Corinthians 1:10-13

Acts 16:16 the python spirit – divination

Paul confronted this demonic spirit in Philippi. It was one of the demonic spirits named in the New Testament.  A fortune teller or diviner, this woman met them, followed them and shouted announcements.  Most would consider this a good thing. Someone is shouting out who we are and affirming us, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved."  Uh. Sounds good. Yet, everyone who saw her attached to Paul and Silas could conclude they were "of the same spirit".  For days she continued in the same activity following Paul and proclaiming and shouting out affirmations that sounded correct.

Keep in mind.  Jesus was confronted by Satan himself on occasion as the Devil thought he had opportunity.   Matthew 4:1-f  He also confronted Legion and many other fallen angelic spirits.  Satan and his cohorts are always looking for a moment of opportunity to deceive (Sow lies), confuse (cloud the truth and resolute action and focus) and hinder (but things in the way of the servants of the Lord to stall, slow, and hinder the advance of the Kingdom.).  The Master encountered Satan.  We will as well.  Better to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves in the face of his attacks.

Here is an overview of the characteristics of this spiritual attack.

1.     Positive affirmation of Paul’s ministry and ours – from a clearly demonic fortune teller who is not noted as repenting or being baptized.  Drawing close, causing confusion, preparing for the ultimate connection of his ministry with theirs. Wearying them. Tightening the fatigue and passivity.
2.     All that the apostles did in miracles, healings, signs etc would be associated with the slave girl as well.  Associated with divination.
3.     Jesus did not allow demons to associate with him even when they spoke the truth about him.  He would silence them.
Side Note: The Devil is clear on who Jesus is and who his servants are.
Sons of Sceva - Acts 19:14
4.     She kept this up for many daysPaul and Silas took a while to realize that their guard was down.  That they were passive toward this "voice".  To discern the python spirit confronting their ministry.
5.     The word for how Paul felt when he turned and rebuked the spirit was…
6.     Toil, work hard; passive nature of the verb – worn out, at the end of ones tether. Paul and Silas were at their ropes end.  The account does not say they had breakthrough or report salvation or miracles?  Until the spirit was defeated.

7.     Flattery, and spiritual perception were part of the attack.

Why didn’t Paul perceive a demonic spirit influenced the diviner?  What was the outcome described after… “She kept this up for many days.”

She kept up her yelling and announcing with incessant continuance.

 It wore Paul out.  Most likely that is when he perceived the attack and the “way of the python spirit” affronting him.

The environment/atmosphere was one of squeezing, slowly, incessantly, and continuously.  Just like a python snake. Every breath you take it tightens is grip.

Ephesians 6:12
"Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.…"

The Python Spirit
·      Comes in times of uncertainty when encouragement is needed – when we are tired, worn down.
When we are not seeing all we expect or when we face a difficult challenges.

Key - we start to make agreements with enemy perspectives, slowly, step by step, as weariness and fatigue creep in.  For every agreement the energy of the Spirit shrinks, is sapped out of us. Everything starts shrinking as the attack grows tighter and tighter and we loose all sense of creativity, power in the Spirit and energy for advancing.

We loose sight of the power of the Kingdom.
We loose sight of the creativity and breakthrough of the Spirit.
We loose sight of who we are "in Christ".  Eph 1
We loose sight of a faith filled heart seeking the Father's way to new life and power.
We loose sight of exercising the power we carry.
We loose sight of our God in our midst as a mighty creative and guiding grace to lead us through any and all hindrances and challenges in our mission with Jesus.

For instance.  Paul allowed this woman to be among them and to follow "for many days".  Possibly he was encouraged by the flattery in a weak moment. As things tightened up and they did not see a breakthrough in the Kingdom possibly they lost their perspective of the Kingdom.
Giving in to one though here, one thought there.  Letting go of the victory in Christ and the simple leading of the Holy Spirit.

Key: Passivity is a sign of "giving in" to the Enemy.  Jesus is never passive.  He is always working in the will of the Father.

What to look for?
·     It Comes around an environment of Spiritual power – it is false expression –divination – familiar spirit knowledge.  Soul knowledge.  Demonic knowledge.  It lacks any power in the Spirit but presents itself as knowledge of the spirit.
·      It Flatters and gains influence by affirmation, identifying with the ministry in its reality, yet offering no real energy in the Spirit for the ministry. This is key.
Simon Magus - was confronted by Peter.
Eventually this woman was confronted and released from the demonic oppression of her life.

·      It seeks to come alongside and identify with true spiritual authority – but has none.  Wearying the mission leaders with affirmations but no rain.  Clouds with no rain.  Proverbs 25:14
"Like clouds with no rain is one who boasts of gifts never given."
·      It causes weariness, a beat down feeling, a passivity to miracles, prophetic grace and breakthrough vision.   Paul learned to overcome this and you can to.

2 Corinthians 4:8

"But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves; 8we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; 9persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;…"

Key: We live in the tension of the NOW and the Not YET.  The Kingdom of God is here and is coming in fullness.  We see it now and we hope in it for what is not yet.   This is the normal position of Kingdom Saints.  Moving from the faith deposit to the Hope assurance to the Love Fruit. This is an important lesson and central to frontier mission activity in the Kingdom of God.  We have to learn the ways of breakthrough.  We have to learn about these battles, hindrances and spiritual confrontations and move through them with power and love.

·      Is not in deep relationship or accountable relationship with true spiritual authority.
·      Points to itself as “spiritually discerning” “spiritually in tune with revelation”
·      Meditate on ACTS 16:16-24

Characteristics of a Spirit of Python
 By Dr. Eddie Hyatt’s
Luke uses “spirit of python” in regards to this slave girl probably because the spirit operating in her was like the one at Delphi. There is, of course, the possibility that she had actually been to Delphi and that is where she picked up this false spirit. It is important to note that what she said was true. Satan and demons have some knowledge and will reveal their “secrets” in order to impress and draw people into their destructive web.  Only our God, however, is omniscient, i.e., all knowing.
Here are some of the traits of a spirit of python that are obvious in this narrative.

It loves to flatter. The prophecy of this young woman was not given to encourage or affirm, but to flatter. We all need to give and receive affirmation and encouragement, but flattery is insincere and self-serving. So many today, including leaders, are so starved for affirmation and approval that they are vulnerable to the flatteries of a deceiving, python spirit. Our security is in being so settled in God’s acceptance and approval that we are no longer susceptible to the flatteries of a false prophetic spirit. Beware of those who use prophecy to flatter and, thereby, gain advantage.

It demands attention. This is indicated by the fact that she followed Paul and the others for “many days” continually giving forth her prophecy. Beware of those who use prophecy to thrust themselves into the limelight.

It loves to be seen and heard. This is indicated by the fact that she kept putting herself at the center of attention. Make note of those who use prophecy to make themselves the center of attention.

It wants to be important. This is indicated by the fact that she directed her prophesying to the leaders of this new movement. Beware of those who use prophecy to gain status with pastors and leaders.

There is often a monetary motive involved. This young slave girl was raking in a lot of money for her masters. I am afraid this same motive is at work in the charismatic/prophetic movement today, usually in very subtle ways. I once saw a man, who probably had a genuine gift of prophecy; express his desire to pray for everyone who would bring a $20.00 offering for his ministry to the front. As he prayed and then prophesied over each one, I saw women looking in their purses for money so they could go forward and get a “word.” I believe this man was opening himself to a false spirit—a spirit of python—by his devious actions.

Kingdom Opposites

Constriction – Control

Weariness -
Remember what the Amalekites did to you along the way when you came out of Egypt.
When you were weary and worn out, they met you on your journey and cut off all who were lagging behind; they had no fear of God.
When the LORD your God gives you rest from all the enemies around you in the land he is giving you to possess as an inheritance, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget!

                        Ps 63  - my soul clings to you….

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Ps 50:4-11   instructs me in words for the weary

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Fatigue

Confusion – Throw our enemies into confusion Lord our God
The LORD threw them into confusion before Israel, who defeated them in a great victory at Gibeon. Israel pursued them along the road going up to Beth Horon and cut them down all the way to Azekah and Makkedah.
May all who seek to take my life be put to shame and confusion; may all who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace.
May those who seek my life be put to shame and confusion; may all who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace.
which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.
I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be.

Decree

Lord, bring forth a wisdom that confounds the enemies of your Gospel, upholds in righteousness the true fellowship of the Saints in Jesus Christ, and destroys through the Blood of Christ all python spirits and each supporting lessor demons.

We cling to your words of life and recognize you have opened a door that no man can shut.
We welcome your presence and proclaim against weariness, frustration, “I love you Lord, my strength”. Ps 18:1.
We speak through the open door you have created with your word to the dry and dead bones that are not drawing life from your open doors and throne room vision, come to life in the word of the Lord.
We welcome your presence in water and fire.
We welcome your presence in manifest freedom and grace.
We ask for wisdom to align our lives to the prophetic words spoken over us and in which we participate as family in Jesus.
We will settle for nothing less than the fulfillment of your word and the victory of your proclamation.

Be high and lifted up Lord Jesus.  Let your glory fill Central Oregon.  Bring springs and rivers and lakes and ponds.

We welcome the fire of holiness and cleansed lives in the Spirit.

Speak through the OPEN DOOR no one can shut!  Revelation 3:8

            Father, we speak your words to the dry bones. ….

Go ahead.  Run with HIM.

Paralysis. Silenced Voice. Old Wine Skins and Breakthrough in Jesus

While visiting a lovely fellowship I had a vision of people clinging to their past, their understandings of the past, old wine skins....

What I also saw out in front was WIDE OPEN COUNTRY.

No boarders.  No boundaries.
Isaiah 49:11
Jesus had opened up all the constrictions and limitations.  The fencing gates, double and wide, were open or there was no fencing seen at all.  The Spirit invited them into a wide open country.  They were aware of the invitation.

The Lord presented me with a picture of a few different responses to this OPEN COUNTRY.

Fear. Afraid of open spaces. Afraid of what was unknown.
The boundless country was clearly in view but the fear of going out into it without clear understanding and all the "pieces in place" caused them to waiver.  In doing so they gave fear a place; love grows cold in a fearful heart.  It shaped their eye sight and their sense of vision for the OPEN COUNTRY.
Deep inside them a Word was brewing that was alive and rich and full of faith.  The fear and lack of faith in front kept their feet from walking out into the OPEN COUNTRY.

Perfect love casts out fear.
We need a revelation of Christ's love as big as the Country we are called to inhabit.

"By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. 18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. 19We love, because He first loved us.…"  I John 4:8

Look for fears of being punished.

Fears that God is not pleased with you. That God will punish you rather than discipline you like a loving Father who imparts a future and a hope.
Fears that you will not measure up in the OPEN COUNTRY.
Fears that you don't qualify for the OPEN COUNTRY.
Fears because you failed in the past.

Pray into Ephesians 3:14-21

The Paralyzed.  Next I saw people clinging to the fencing posts.  They were terrified.  They had a tight hold on the posts and just wouldn't let go.  They were so comfortable in the old boundaries, understandings and even the language of the past.  They clung to fence posts, the structure of the past and the complete set of teaching and patterns that upheld the old wine skin.   Fear rose up in them at the sound of the new wine pouring out.   Or they were immediately caught up in judgement and or resistance.  They were paralyzed.  STIFF.  They

were dead wood stiffs in the new wine move of the Holy Spirit.  They were also tired of gripping so tightly.  They were weary and did not have rivers of living water flowing from within.  They were brittle and judgmental.  Most of all they were paralyzed.  They could no longer move.  They were unable to go into the OPEN COUNTRY because of their sins.   Bound up from the inside out they we unable to move freely in the grace filled and water rich country the Father had shown them.   They saw it also.  But lacked inner faith.  They did not mix faith with the steady flow of wisdom and understanding that Father had provided.   I Tim 1:18-19

Matthew 9: 1-7    Jesus heals the paralytic.  With a word he forgives his sin and breaks him free from his inner paralysis and then heals his body.  Some need the healing touch of Jesus to break their paralysis and get them walking again.  And sometimes we need to carry them right into the presence of the Lord and set them in front of Jesus.  Sometimes there are hindrances and opposition and the way is not open to just walk in and set them down in front of  Jesus.  So we find another way in for them.  We need to make a hole in the roof.  In the midst of a people paralyzed, we need to break a hole in the ceiling so people can walk again.

"Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven."  Matt 9:2

Those lacking confidence.  The questions these asked is "What do we do in such a vast country?".  Vacillating and double minded (James 1:8) they are seeing and then doubting and then turning back.  When faced with opposition or challenge they shrink instead of ROAR.
 "For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways." James 1:8
I hear the Lord saying, "Haven't I directed you?".   The Lord's Scripture and rhema words are surely available to guide, direct our steps and give us confidence in the way (I Tim 1:18-19; 6:20).  The requirement is to WALK.  We are required to get moving in what we do know.
We need to get our feet moving in faith.  Taking what the Lord has said, applying faith to it and walking in the Spirit.

The size of the country, unlimited boundaries, really is not the issue.  The issue is obedience mixed with faith in a walking motion.
Go for a walk!

Are we willing to mix faith with what we DO KNOW?  What the Spirit has instructed us in?  Are we willing to move out without the whole picture but with a clear picture of Jesus?  This requires faith in Jesus.  It requires deliberate stewarding of the grace we've received.  This is the Kingdom of God in motion.   This is the rule and reign of Christ in us.  This kinds of faith in motion is the Kingdom coming in power.  This kind of faith overcomes the world as it ADDS the Kingdom of God to everything.

"This was in accordance with the eternal purpose which He carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord, 12in whom we have boldness and confident access through faith in Him. 13Therefore I ask you not to lose heart at my tribulations on your behalf, for they are your glory.

We have Boldness.
Confidence.
Access.

In the OPEN COUNTRY Christ is our boldness.
In the OPEN COUNTRY Christ is our confidence.
In the OPEN COUNTRY Christ is our access to the Father.

The Kingdom first means that when people encounter us they encounter the Kingdom first.

In the OPEN COUNTRY where trust and faith are living and active Jesus' presence and Kingdom are on ongoing revelation to many.   Take the invitation to the open country and let the Spirit minister and heal anything that stands in the way.

We were made for freedom.  Set free for freedom.  We are a boundless people of the love of God.  In our hearts a King of Glory reigns.

Go ahead.  Run with HIM.
